Branches of Light and Shadow
A large tree-branch pattern inlaid with laser-cut bronze has been sand-blasted into the granite paving of the forecourt. The motif changes and comes alive in response to the natural light: in sunshine the shadows in the grooves make the patterns like arrays of solid lines; in cloudy weather the artwork becomes brittle, almost imperceptible. In the dark an identical branch motif is projected onto the sand-blasted pattern with gobo lights. The project included invited national arts competition phase (1st prize).
